Hi, I’m David 👋

Senior software engineer from Munich. I build software and coordinate development at work, do open source in my free time and love to repair or make dumb things smart.

Professional

• Senior software engineer. I lead teams and build backends in Kotlin, Java and more. I’m always ready to take on whatever other challenges come up along the way.
• Security and distributed systems. My strongest interests: keeping systems secure and connecting mobile apps or distributed services.
• Master degree at TUM. During my studies I built JDCallgraph, the first Java agent that records call graphs while a program runs and uses them to build dependency graphs that help find bugs.

Private

• Open source. I write “integrations” for Home Assistant in order to control household devices, like a water softener or a solar inverter, over their local APIs instead of a vendor cloud.
• HomeLab. I also build tooling around Komodo, which runs my own servers: a Home Assistant integration, a Python API client, backups, and container update checks.
• Linux. I’ve used it for 20 years on personal computers, servers and raspberries. Gained a lot of first-hand experience and still hyped for the new distros.
• Outdoors with my family. When offline, I enjoy hiking in the mountains, walking in the forest and growing vegetables in our garden. Or doing any kind of other outdoor sports.
• Making and repairing. I build furniture, tools and other things out of wood. I also like to take apart and repair everything, from washing machines and kids’ toys to heating systems, and I’ve installed several balcony solar systems.
